Bereavement

“It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone” – John Steinbeck

Grief is something we all experience at some point in our lives but how we experience it can vary from person to person. For some it is a process of slowly accepting the loss and building our lives around that loss. While not forgetting the person who has died we build lives to incorporate their memories and perhaps traditions which were part of the relationship. You may feel that with time your emotions start to become more manageable.

With some bereavements this is more challenging and make the feelings of loss and grief at times overwhelming. The reasons for these difficulties are varied and may involve the way your loved one died, your relationship with that person prior to their death, whether your loved one was a child or young person. In these circumstances counselling can be an effective support in processing your thoughts and emotions in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space.

I have experience of working for Circle Bereavement Service, Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford. Through this placement I recognised the challenges faced by people grieving for their loved ones. For some it brought up memories of difficult childhoods and for others it brought up grief from past losses. Each person I have worked with have dealt with their loss in a different way and although there maybe similar emotions as grief moves on each person life and grief is different. I believe it is essential that you grieve in a way that suits you and I will not set a path for you to follow. Together we will travel the journey as you begin to process your grief and build your life around your loss.
